Success Strategy 1.
Create a Reason for an “Opening Rush”
In its first News update, announced an event, giving supporters a reason. It was an event where 100 supporters who completed all three actions—signing up for notifications, signing the Pledge of support, and participating in funding—would receive a Taekwon V Big Head plush keychain.

On the day of the launch, they posted a News update one hour before the start to remind supporters of the funding start time, the first-come, first-served benefits, and how to receive discount coupons. This served as another opportunity to encourage supporters who were hesitating to make a payment.

If you’re applying this to your first project? In the pre-launch News, provide specific details on “what you can receive and how on the first day.”

Success Strategy 2.
Satisfying fans’ curiosity with real-life photos and videos
Fans eagerly awaiting Taekwon V were curious about the actual size of the product and how it transforms. Olympus addressed this by sharing real-life photos and videos. They posted photos with a measuring tape to show that the figure was approximately 31 cm tall, and four days before the release, they also released a video demonstrating how the parts could be manually moved to transform it into a turtle ship. By explaining that the transformation was manual rather than automatic, they answered fans’ questions.

If you’re applying this to your first project? When the project is launching soon, use photos or videos to show supporters the things they’re curious about.

Success Strategy 3.
Attracting More Supporters with Diverse Rewards
Even for the same product, each supporter has different preferences. Olympus took into account everyone from fans who simply wanted to own a single Taekwon V to those who wanted to display both the robot and Turtle Ship forms or enjoy the product with their families. Accordingly, they created a diverse range of Rewards, and and on the product detail page, they specifically indicated which supporters each Reward was best suited for.

If you’re applying this to your first project? In the Rewards description, include a one-sentence section titled “Recommended for…”

The Secret to the First Successful Funding Campaign: The Taekwon V Turtle Ship Transformation Robot
By clearly explaining the benefits and how to participate,
Let’s create a reason to rush to the opening
No matter how great the perks are, supporters will find it hard to participate on the first day of the campaign if they don’t know what they can get or how to get it. Olympus announced first-come, first-served perks and special event benefits in advance, and on the day of the launch, they provided a reminder on how to claim coupons. If you’re planning an event, make sure supporters can understand the perks and how to participate at a glance and join easily!
wadiz TIP+
Write event instructions in the order of“What You Get → Participation Requirements → Deadline,” and include the same text on both the campaign page and in the News feed. On the day the campaign launches, post another update in the News feed one hour before the start to remind supporters about the perks and how to participate.

Frequently Asked Questions for Makers Preparing for Their First Funding Campaign
Q. What should I write in the “Launching Soon” News post?
First, decide on four topics—the production process, answers to supporter questions, news about finalized Rewards, and launch day instructions—and post them in that order. Olympus started with an event announcement, followed by updates on the package production process, samples of free gifts, information on actual product dimensions, scenes from their office, confirmation of the wadiz-exclusive box, a video showing the transformation process, and finally, launch day instructions.
Q. Please recommend an event to increase the number of notification sign-ups.
Establish a benefit exclusive to supporters who sign up for notifications, and give them a sneak peek of that benefit before the campaign launches soon. Olympus announced a raffle for a Taekwon V plush keychain—exclusive to supporters who signed up for notifications—in its very first News update before the campaign launches soon, and subsequently shared updates featuring keychain samples and production completion news. They also explained the benefits of subscribing, such as, “If you subscribe, you’ll be the first to receive launch updates via KakaoTalk messages.”
